It seems U.S.-based Cooper Tires doesn’t want the Chinese tire tariffs the administration has put in place to protect them. Apparently a new phenomenon known as “globalization” has lead Cooper to maintain operations inside China.
Goodyear hasn’t taken a stance, which, if nothing else, means it’s not a pressing enough problem for them to support the tariffs. A golden ticket to anyone who can identify the major backer of the tariffs (and faithful Obama donor) in the comments.
200 years of economic theory shows that tariffs are counterproductive, hurt everyone, and score cheap political points on the backs of workers and industry. Are we really still doing this stuff?
